C.C.P.E. Bach was his famous father’s most successful son. He was instrumental, pardon the pun, in the development of the symphony as a form and as a transitional composer from the Baroque Era to the Classical Era. At the end of his life, he was a contemporary of Mozart. His ’empfindsamer Stil’, or sensitive style, derived from his love of rhetoric, which he attempted to elucidate through his music. Although not programme music in the same category as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, Carl Philipp Emanuel’s unique style made him popular in his day and keeps him popular even now.
