Schimmel K175 Grand Piano

$120,275.00

The smallest and most accessible of the Schimmel Konzert series grand pianos, the K175 Tradition is a sub 6-foot grand that feels like a full 9-foot concert grand piano. Boasting the exact same action and key length as the 9’2″ Konzert K280, the K175 is the ultimate smaller grand for those unwilling to compromise when it comes to touch.

Description

Product Overview

One of the most prolific German piano manufacturers’s in terms of volume, from a performance standpoint, Schimmel pianos historically were rarely part of the discussion when it comes to the most elite of handmade German and European grands, a small group that includes C. Bechstein, Bosendorfer, Hamburg Steinway, Fazioli, and a few others.

Schimmel’s enormous R&D investment over the past several years has resulted in a new line of grand and upright pianos that can faithfully now be considered part of said conversation – the Schimmel Konzert series.

The Schimmel K175 is the smallest of the lineup, but at 5’9″, can’t be considered a baby grand, yet is still not going to be too prohibitive where space is at a premium.

With many of the same innovative features cascading down from the 280 concert grand, including a full-length concert-length action, the K175 is a wonderful German option and a great alternative to a similarly sized Yamaha or Shigeru Kawai.

Find out why the K175 is one of the top sellers at our Robert Lowrey Piano Experts showroom in Toronto.

Action

As mentioned above, many would agree that the biggest highlight of the K175 is the action. Featuring the exact same geometry and extended keys as the 9’2″ K280, the K175 is the ultimate sub 6-foot practice instrument for those who covet the touch and maximum control that only a concert grand piano can provide. In fact, all of the smaller models of the Konzert series feature this same action.

The action itself was designed by Schimmel’s R&D department and is built in another part of Germany by Renner.

Schimmel’s selected a special mineral for the white keytops, and authentic ivory for the black keys.

Tone

One of Schimmel’s key goals with these new models was to improve the tone quality by expanding the range of tonal colours and warming up the sound.

The combination of design and precise craftsmanship has allowed Schimmel to achieve this goal, with the Konzert series offering a level of warmth and depth Schimmel has never before realized.

Design-related innovations that have aided in this include Triplex Scaling, and an innovative bridge design that allows the soundboard to vibrate in a less restrained manner.

Hammers

The K175 features double felted hammer-heads, and shanks of mahogany. The hammers are made by Wurzen, and voiced to such an extreme degree in the factory that Schimmel refers to the process as ‘pedantic’ – clearly indicative of the time spent voicing these hammers so the tone is perfect right out of the box.

Soundboard

Not only does the K175 feature a soundboard of high-quality Bavarian spruce, but the soundboard itself is larger than the vast majority of soundboards you’ll find in comparable grands to facilitate greater power and sustain.

The soundboard is also tapered to maximize its acoustic potential.

Cabinet/Rim

The K175 features a shockingly thick rim design, with alternating layers of beech and maple. The K175 also boast an extra-wide tail to accommodate the extra-large soundboard.
