Product Overview
With a rich history dating all the way back to 1885, Schimmel is one of the piano industries most storied piano makers. Like all German piano makers, Schimmel was dealt a near death blow by the effects of both world wars, but ultimately returned to prosperity in the decades that followed.
As of today, Schimmel offers 4 distinct product lineups, with manufacturing spanning from Germany, to Poland and China. Schimmel’s Classic series is still entirely hand-made in Germany, and reflects their attempt to capture the essence of a traditional German upright piano in terms of design, craftsmanship, and musical qualities.
These are generational quality instruments, but available for less than the more Konzert series instruments, which are built with more contemporary, computer-aided designs for a more modern musical experience.
The Schimmel Classic C126 is the perfect piano for those seeking a taller handcrafted German piano that harkens back to the past.
Action
Renner builds the action used in the C126, but it’s entirely designed by Schimmel’s R&D team. With extensive factory level regulation, these actions are responsive, easy to control, and lightning fast out of the box.
German upright pianos are known for their singular level of finesse and refinement, and the C126 reflects this, easily outplaying other 50” uprights of the non-German variety.
Tone
The Schimmel literature on the C126 says the scale design is based on the “Golden Ratio” – a mathematical concept seen in nature and often imitated in art, music and architecture. Regardless of how this concept is executed and incorporated, this instrument has a voice that absolutely sings from top to bottom.
As with the Schimmel uprights from the past and the other Classic series entries, the C126 is very clear, and much brighter than most other German uprights, including those of the Konzert series.
Hammers
The C126 uses beech-core double felted wool sourced from prized Spanish Merino sheep. Made by Wurzen in Germany, these are a heavier hammer than most other German uprights.
Soundboard
The soundboard is the heart of any piano, and Schimmel’s respect for this is reflected by sourcing only 300 year old solid spruce of the AA Bavarian variety for the soundboards in the C126. The soundboards are precision tapered prior to installation for maximum resonance potential.
Cabinet
The C126 boasts the classic, regal look of a fine upright piano. With robust construction and precise cabinetry, including solid mountain spruce backposts, the C126 is built to last generations.
