Product Overview
The Schimmel C123T upright pianos is a special-edition series, produced in limited quantities, that featured a unique ‘grand-style’ top lid, extra finishing on the back of the instrument, and a robust and warm tone, along with Schimmel’s distinctive touch and sustain. The piano is German-built, and part of the Classic lineup. It is also a close cousin to Schimmel’s new W123 upright piano built in Poland nder the Wilhelm Schimmel line. The instrument sits between the C121 and C126 in terms of size, and unlike other models in the C-series line, features casters (wheels) for easier movement of the instrument. It’s visually stunning, and sonically more round than typical Schimmel uprights, without the loss of any of the clarity that exemplifies the brand.
Action
The C123 features a premium action designed by Schimmel and made in Germany by Renner. The C123T enjoys the same new uprights to the keystick length as Schimmel’s other Classic and Konzert-line upright pianos, such as the C126, C130 or the K132. The extra-long keystick length allows for greater control of the action, especially at dynamic extremes, and has been becoming a trend among more forward-thinking manufacturers in recent years.
Schimmel instruments also receive their own mineral-based keytops, which provide a very nice texture. Overall, this action is highly fluid – quick and effortless. Getting around advanced classical repertoire will be no problem with this action.
Tone
Schimmel pianos are known for the bright and clear tone, along with the super immediate attack. They’re typically much brighter in tone than other German uprights, which is likely due to the heavier hammers Schimmel uses.
This holds true with the C123 – this instrument produces a powerful tone with laser-like levels of clarity, all the way from the bass to the treble.
The bridge caps are horizontally laminated, something entirely unique to Schimmel, which changes the overall harmonics of the tone with greater sustain. This design has also trickled down from the Konzert series.
Hammers
To reinforce the brighter tonal philosophy Schimmel is shooting for with the C123, they’ve gone with Beech core hammer shanks as opposed to the Mahogany selected for the Konzert series.
High-quality felt is supplied by Wurzen, and the hammers are double felted for clarity.
Soundboard
The C123 features soundboards of AA Bavarian spruce. These soundboards have been aged, and are tapered for greater resonance and tonal projection.
Cabinet
The C123 features a redesigned cabinet with a much slicker, modern aesthetic than the C120. Besides its distinctive side-opening top lid, it also features trade-mark aesthetic language from the Schimmel line including wider foot pedals, more prominent brass work, and slightly angular styling.
