He began his career at the Leipzig Conservatory and became a famous composer of his time. His many works are primarily solo salon music, but also include symphonies, piano concertos, operas, and choral works. Although many publishers published his works, they have since fallen into oblivion.

Friedrich Baumfelder (1836-1916) was a German composer, pianist and pedagogue born in Dresden. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory and then returned to Dresden to take up a teaching post.
His music – he wrote symphonies, overtures as well as piano concertos – is largely forgotten except for a few piano studies and salon pieces.
