Ashwood Plaza/Park offers a perfect urban retreat. It is an L-shaped green space, next to the busy Bellevue Regional Library, where 3,000 people pass through the doors each day. A statue of Mahatma Gandhi looks out onto the green, inviting serenity in the midst of Bellevue.

Larine Chung was born in Shanghai, China and raised in Hong Kong. She was trained as a classical pianist since her childhood, but decided to pursue art in college. After she completed her BFA in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, she immigrated to United State in 2004 with her family. She is currently living in Washington State and had just graduated from the 4 year Classical Atelier program trained in classical painting tradition under Juliette Aristides. She is interested in creating works that is relevant to now and would evoke an intellectual and emotional response in people. Chung’s work has received recognition nationally and internationally. She was the recipient of the Waterway fellowship organized by Studio Escalier, France, Robert DeZordo scholarship and Gregory Robinson Scholarship. George Jennings began his life immersed in the world of fine art. He learned art fundamentals from his grandfather, the late fine art painter John N. Robinson. George grew up in Washington, D.C. and spent most weekends with unlimited access to the Smithsonian galleries. He entered regional art competitions as a teenager and he spent one year at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. After high school, George continued to paint and learn on his own, entering art contests, participating in group exhibits and having solo exhibits of his work. Eve is a lifelong artist skilled in a wide variety of media including graphite, charcoal, pen-and-ink, oil paint, watercolor, photography, digital design, textile arts and welded metal sculpture. Born and raised in Seattle, Eve studied art at the University of Washington and the Facultée des Lettres in Avignon, France, before transferring to The Rhode Island School of Design, where she received her B.F.A. with a major in Fine Arts Photography. She is a member of the Audubon Society, Society of Children’s Book Illustrators and Writers, and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators
She’s served as Creative Director for several companies, and is currently a third-year student in the three-year intensive Aristides Classical Painting Atelier at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle. She lives in Seattle with her husband and two daughters, and enjoys gardening, volunteering at the Washington Park Arboretum, and making art.

Bellevue Botanical
This nearly 21-acre oasis in the heart of Bellevue features a half-mile promenade bordered by a double row of shade trees, a stepped canal, and a 240-foot-wide waterfall that cascades into a reflecting pond. The 10-acre lawn is perfect for picnics, with Bellevue’s skyline and Mount Rainier in the background. The park’s play area and formal gardens host all sorts of community events.

Bellevue Artist-author Vikram Madan enjoys creating experiences that make people smile. With a long past being the first park the Olmsted Brothers designed in Seattle in 1901, evolving over the years it has endless opportunities of enjoyment including a playfield, a fountain, a wading pool and a play area right in Capitol Hill.

Artist: Josh Chuzi
Josh recently moved to Seattle from Phoenix, AZ. An award winning figurative sculptor and interdisciplinary college professor, Josh decided to pursue a doctoral degree at Arizona State University’s Design School in 2011, with a focus in Environment, Design, and the Arts. When asked about the relationships between anatomical representation, teaching, and the theoretical principles of physical space, he smiles and explains that once the human form is understood, it leads to a further sensitivity to movement, composition, and communication – the foundations of all disciplines. Josh very happily spends his time with his fiancé, Kaitlin, and their three fuzzy children, Olive, Milo, and Chino, and is a Gage teaching artist.

A Day at the Beach
Artist: Sophia Lael and Elizabeth Donahue
Sophia Lael is an artist who has studied at Gage among other places, and an accomplished jazz pianist. Sophia also painted Dedicated to Mary Lou Williamson. Elizabeth is an artist who has worked in silkscreen, printmaking, jewelry, and floral design in Seattle. She has collaborated with Sophia and friends for 30 years of artistic endeavors and in the art of living. She wanted to paint the clamming scene to bring the interaction of family, community, and nature to Pianos in the Parks. Seattle’s parks are a huge part of why Elizabeth loves the City so much. She visits Seward Park almost every day, and thinks public interactive art is a great way to inspire the community.

How to get away in the middle of the city? This park north of the City of Seattle is for you, whether you want to walk or jog the path around the lake or you would rather dive into the lake from a dock, this park has it all. Grab a picnic basket and a blanket and head over!

Artist: Brittany Carchano
Brittany is a Seattle native and has enjoyed doing art and crafting since she was a young girl. A recent UW graduate with a BA in Interdisciplinary Arts, Brittany focused on printmaking during her time in college and fell in love with the boldness of linocut. As an interdisciplinary artist she had the opportunity to practice art in various mediums including ceramic wheel throwing, drawing, and photography. She is currently the Development Coordinator at Gage Academy of Art and enjoys doing yoga and reading books by her favorite author, Paulo Coelho.

On top of Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, next to the Jefferson Park Golf Club, Jefferson Park is abuzz with activity. Artist: Olivia Beaufait and her son, William
Olivia and William enjoy baking cookies, science experiments, growing plants from seeds, and learning about outer space and dinosaurs. Both are artists working in various mediums. William, six years old, loves origami, tying knots, finding rocks for his collection, and taping various things together. Olivia received her BA in painting from Dartmouth College in 2000 and her MFA in painting from the University of Washington in 2004. She is the recipient of a PONCHO Artist-in-Residence grant and her work has been published twice in New American Paintings. She has exhibited her work at the Jaffe-Friede and Strauss Galleries and the Alliance for Visual Arts in New Hampshire, the Henry Art Gallery, the Jacob Lawrence Gallery, Soil Art Gallery, Francine Seders Gallery, and SAM Rental Sales Gallery. Her teaching experience includes Gage Academy of Art, Digipen, SAM, Kirkland Arts Center, UW, and the University of Chicago. She is currently the Director of the Studio Arts Intensive, an awesome new program beginning this fall at Gage.

Lake Union Park is a unique urban gem, close to the center of downtown Seattle, next to Amazon.com’s world headquarters and Seattle’s Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI). Lake Union Park
At the northeast end of Mercer Island, Luther Burbank Park features spectacular views of Lake Washington and areas for swimming, boating and fishing. Many of the park’s 77 acres have been left undeveloped for the benefit of wildlife, including 135 species of birds, 50 species of waterfowl, raccoons, beaver, muskrats, tree frogs and rabbits. Much of this wildlife can be found around the wetlands on the north and south ends of the park.

Some greatly value their artistic birthright and it becomes increasingly precocious; they were creating masterpieces in utero with amniotic fluids and such. I think that at any age, with any education, any hand and heart that is willing to pick up a pencil, or a brush, or a stick for that matter, and endeavor to work hard to represent something with authenticity and clarity is a hand I’m willing to shake as a colleague (and it’s also a hand I’m happy to encourage). My work is driven by this thinking and it shows in the varying themes and media. It is a big world full of opportunities to create: representational watercolors; bizarre digital portraits of circus performers; sculptures of flounder life cycles; cheeky coffee shop commentary; and then maybe silly (at times, poignant) children’s book illustrations. Marymoor Park
In the heart of downtown Mercer Island, Mercerdale is an ideal city park. In addition to many trails and plenty of rolling, open space, Mercerdale entices locals to get out and play with plenty of areas for a picnic, an expanded skateboard park, and a sprawling children’s playground. Mercerdale is also the home of “Mostly Music in the Park” summer concerts, sponsored by Mercer Island Parks and Recreation, as well as a variety of events and activities throughout the year.

Occidental Square Park is in the heart of the historic Pioneer Square district. Arica has lived and worked in Seattle her whole life. As much as she loves her solitary painting time, Arica is playful in nature. Her artwork often depicts people in states of excitement and ecstasy. Katerena Kuksenok is a Ukrainian writer and artist who has been living and working in Seattle for half a decade. This piano was inspired by her experience as a guitarist in a jazz band, combined with her interest in creating paths for people to try new things in their communities and environments. The glyphs painted on the piano are enough to get started with a 12 bar blues bassline and improvised melody. In other words, this piano is painted with the makings of having a great time in trying something new and winging it.
